          Plans Authority To Regulate Collection, Storage Of Blood 
          The Central government is planning to 
          create a regulatory framework called Blood Transfusion Authority on 
          the lines of FDA to monitor various aspects like blood collection, 
          storage and distribution. A suitable legislation to bring this 
          activity under the regulatory umbrella is being prepared in this 
          regard.

          GE Healthcare's advanced compact 
          ultrasound technology 'LOGIQ e' is installed in 100 centres across the 
          country including Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad and Lilavati Hospital,

          Fresenius Kabi To Push Up Parenteral Volumes 
          The Pune-based Fresenius Kabi India Pvt. 
          Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Germany-based Fresenius Kabi AG, 
          is planning to expand its operations in India both through organic and 
          inorganic means. Now more than a Rs 100 crore company in India, 
          Fresenius Kabi has established its mark as a leading provider of 
          plasma volume expanders and parenteral nutrition solutions.

          The Etipack Coding and Labelling Systems, 
          a leading designer of labelling and coding systems for self-adhesive 
          labels, feeders and pick & place devices, recently launched a range of 
          pharmaceutical labelling systems.

          Biosciences Plans Global Expansion 
          Aimed to achieve the target turnover of Rs 
          100 crore in 2007-08, the Ahmedabad-based Marck Biosciences Ltd, a 
          leading manufacturer of parenterals, said the company would expand its 
          presence in global markets. As per the plan, the company will apply 
          for registration to market its products in regulated markets like 
          South East Asia, North and South America, Europe and Australia.

          Lab Enters Into Licensing Agreement With Cooper Surgicals 
          Alkem Laboratories has entered into a 
          licensing agreement with Cooper Surgicals, a business unit of the 
          Cooper Companies, Inc., for the medscanc cytobrushes for women's 
          healthcare markets. Cooper Surgicals is a growing speciality medical 
          products unit serving the medical fraternity with high quality 
          products and services. The company will be further fortifying the 
          relationship with Cooper surgicals by expanding the range of products 
          in other healthcare segment. 
          
          Medical Devices Like Stents, Catheters May Be Notified As Drug 
          More medical devices may fall under the 
          category of drug in the country as the subcommittee, formed to set up 
          standards for 10 notified medical devices, plans to recommend the 
          authority to notify devices including orthopaedic implants as drugs. 
          The committee has identified three drug-testing laboratories in the 
          country to be upgraded for testing standards of the medical devices.
