J&J expands
its presence in orthopaedics
US healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson has plans to roll out
India-specific devices soon, in keeping with its plans to expand its presence in
the Indian orthopaedic deices market. These new products will be designed to
suit the Indian market and will be priced economically.
In fact, as a start, J&J recently launched its first product
in this range, a knee implant called PFC Sigma RP-F Knee.
"PFC Sigma very much mimics the natural motion of a knee
joint, which allows patients to do regular activities like bending, kneeling or
playing with children”, said J&J India Director Anil Nayak.
J&J has recognized India as a key growth market for this
business. The company intends to spread awareness amongst patients about
diseases and their management, along with providing training to doctors. J&J
operates its orthopedics devices business through DePuy Orthopaedics and has no
immediate plans to manufacture them in India.
