Marck Biosciences Plans Global Expansion

Aimed to achieve the target turnover of Rs 100 crore in 2007-08, the Ahmedabad-based Marck Biosciences Ltd, a leading manufacturer of parenterals, said the company would expand its presence in global markets. As per the plan, the company will apply for registration to market its products in regulated markets like South East Asia, North and South America, Europe and Australia.

"We are focussing on a dual pronged strategy of market expansion and leveraging the large CRAM opportunity to grow exponentially in the coming years. We plan to launch our products in more international markets and explore opportunities with pharma companies looking to outsource their manufacturing to India to companies with a portfolio of quality products and a world class manufacturing facility." said Bhavesh Patel, MD, Marck Biosciences.

Marck is targeting to emerge as the third largest parenterals company in India and have invested Rs 72 cr at the existing manufacturing facility in Gujarat to increase its production capacity to 230 mn units of small volume parenterals and 61 mn units of large volume parenterals.

Alkem Lab Enters Into Licensing Agreement With Cooper Surgicals

Alkem Laboratories has entered into a licensing agreement with Cooper Surgicals, a business unit of the Cooper Companies, Inc., for the medscanc cytobrushes for women's healthcare markets. Cooper Surgicals is a growing speciality medical products unit serving the medical fraternity with high quality products and services. The company will be further fortifying the relationship with Cooper surgicals by expanding the range of products in other healthcare segment.

Alkem has made a foray into the emerging preventive care arena with this partnership. Cytomed the SBU of Alkem Labs Ltd, which has been in the forefront of spreading awareness about cancer prevention and early detection, will be commercialising the Cooper surgical range of products in India.

The initial range of Medscand cytobrushes licensed to Alkem includes Cytobrush Plus Gentle touch and Medschand Pap Perfect spatula range of Easy Spec. Cytobrush Plus Gentle touch is an endocervical cell collector for Chlamydia, HPV and other STD detection, which is proven safe and effective in more than 150 studies.
